Here Our Stories: Vicky
Orphans Africa (OA) is a 501 (c) 3 tax-exempt charitable organization that began in 2007 with the coming together of three ordinary people whose desire was to build peace between nations by providing assistance to those who are most vulnerable.
Vicky is 5 years old. She is attending her first year at the Mbozi Nursery School. Her parents have died. Vicky’s mother was killed in an auto accident when Vicky was 5 months old. There are no siblings. Vicky lives with her grandmother but grandfather is deceased. The grandmother sells beverages to try and make a living while caring for Vicky. In Tanzania it is a struggle for Vicky and her grandma. We would say extreme poverty but in Tanzania it is described as “hard life”. Indeed, Vicky’s teacher let us know that the struggle includes a lack of food and clothes. Vicky now has a place to go, our free nursery school. This allows grandmother time to work and make some money. Vicky makes friends, receives free medical insurance from us, learns, and has a much needed lunch at school each day. We told Vicky that we loved her. An iceberg would melt at the sight of her smile, as did our hearts!
