Text Box: Orphan Sponsorship

Theoretically, a child can attend primary school for free in Tanzania. However, sometimes government schools are inadequate for the vast numbers of children, especially when more and more of those children are orphans, unable to pay for such basics as pencils and paper, or the required uniforms. Most orphans do not attend school because there is no place for them, or they are run off by the school officials because the schools are already overcrowded.

Instruction at the Mwaji Secondary School by Teacher Anagisye Mkumbwa. MOP has built this school of sticks and grass to teach students who otherwise would have no place to learn.

This is Happiness; she is one of OA’s sponsored orphans attending secondary school.

If a child is lucky enough to complete primary school, secondary school is NOT free. Students must not only supply their own books, paper, and pencils, but must pay school tuition, a difficult task even for a child who has both their parents.

Orphans Africa wants every orphan to be provided with the opportunities for a full education, including secondary school. Your donation of $200.00 can fully fund one child to attend school for one year, including all school fees, books, school supplies, and uniforms. Your funds also help provide the wages for the teachers, who often teach without compensation. (At present, the teachers must rely on the kindness of neighbors to help them survive!)

MOP-sponsored orphans attending nursery school in Tukuyu. Nursery school (up through age six), is not free in Tanzania.  MOP lacks funds to provide these children with uniforms and supplies.

MOP-sponsored orphans, both primary and secondary students, attending school in Mapinduzi.
