The children are friendly and love visitors!

Volunteering in Tanzania can be one of the most challenging, yet rewarding experiences in a person’s life.  Orphans Africa has only recently partnered with the Marilynn Orphans Projects (MOP), and the list of needs is staggering. This is not an organization where the children already have everything they need, where their white shirts are clean and pressed, and they all have textbooks and eat three meals a day. While these are certainly a part of OA’s (and MOP’s) mission, we are at the ground floor of development and desperately need skilled volunteers who are willing to roll up their sleeves and work with passion and conviction.

Our program is flexible and we tailor-make your schedule according to your abilities and interests, and according to the needs of the orphans and widows. Areas of volunteering can include:

· Teaching at one of the MOP schools. While English and/or French is especially needed, children need instruction in all subject areas, including science, math, history, music, geography, and reading.  (All classes are taught in English. Volunteers must be fluent in English.)

· Providing teacher training and mentoring

· Providing preventive health education, including AIDS / HIV awareness

· Providing health screening for orphans and widows

· Helping with construction of schools (bring your tools!)

· Providing technical assistance to MOP, such as accounting, communications technology, and computer skills

· Teaching English and/or computer classes to widows

· Helping a widow to set up her own business.

The children love to learn and desperately desire an education.

Text Box: IN YOUR OWN COMMUNITY

Besides having volunteers on-site in Tanzania, Orphans Africa also needs people who are willing to raise funds to help the orphans and widows. This can be done right in your own community: within a family unit, a church, a school, or a civic club. Already we’ve had many generous people raise funds and awareness. Here are only some of the ways you too can help:

· Organize a walk-a-thon

· Organize a community or church BBQ, pool party, music fest, or something similar.

· Start a “pocket change drive” at your school or church. All pocket change for one year goes into the pot.

· Organize a carwash or bake sale.

· Organize an auction, with goods and services donated by local businesses.

· Coordinate a recycling drive.
