Pablo’s OA Mountain Biking Team
Orphans Africa (OA) is a 501 (c) 3 tax-exempt charitable organization that began in 2007 with the coming together of three ordinary people whose desire was to build peace between nations by providing assistance to those who are most vulnerable.
I’ve been involved with Orphans Africa since 2009 when I participated in my first trip to Tanzania and spent some time working in the OA projects. When back home in Brazil, I started dedicating more and more time to Mountain Biking (“MTB”) and decided to be part of the most important MTB race worldwide, which is named “Cape Epic” in 2013. Due to the potential exposure of the race I decided to participate representing Orphans Africa and immediately designed specific cycling uniforms for the race. While training and racing with the new uniforms people started asking me, “What is Orphans Africa?” After explaining, they asked about buying the cycling gear
This was the beginning of the story. Since then we have improved the products and many people have started racing in local and international races as Orphans Africa MTB Team athletes. Today we continue designing the uniforms and have caps and other products in the pipeline. We have sold hundreds of uniforms and raised a net amount of $15,000 since we started in 2013. The Orphans Africa MTB Team now has an identity, not only in Brazil but also in other countries where athletes participate wearing the OA colors. We receive daily messages from friends (some we don’t even know) with nice words expressing their pride when wearing our team uniform. The OA MTB Team started without knowing how large it would become but now it is a reality and has gained momentum. It continues to grow and we are very proud of it. Never give up!
