Shamba (farm): Self-Sustainability

Profits from OA’s shamba, or farm, help to sustain all school programs. The shamba raises fish, cows, pigs, and soon, papaya. All proceeds from the shamba go toward offsetting operational costs at all Orphans Africa schools so that orphans can attend for free. It is OA’s goal that the shamba will someday help the schools to become 100% self-sustaining. Besides offsetting school costs, the shamba’s production helps provide much-needed food in a country with high demand, where the median age is only 18.
