Big Dreams

2009

In the fall of 2009, village leaders approached Orphans Africa regarding 80 acres of land that had been donated by the community with the expressed purpose of building a voc-tech college for orphans.

Intrigued, Orphans Africa agreed to take on the project.

Little By Little

2016

Throughout the years, classroom by classroom, program by program, and with enormous efforts from the volunteer teams on both sides of the world, the Isandula Voc-Tech College emerged out of the dry countryside. Besides the buildings, Orphans Africa drilled a deep-water well, providing clean water not only for the campus, but for the surrounding community.

Working together with our field partners, we realized our dream.

OFFERING CAREERS

Programs designed for independence

Today, the Isandula Vocational College offers training programs in electrical, automotive electrical, solar power, driving, and business entrepreneurship, including the use of computers. Orphans attend for free. The Vocational College is positively impacting the lives of numerous orphans, providing them with a quality education and job-ready vocational skills.

The college has a 100% job placement rate.

Tanzania needs the skills of electricians to help develop the country with public power as well as technicians to bring affordable solar power to rural people. Most people in Tanzania don’t have automobiles and, therefore, don’t learn to drive unless they attend a driving program. The graduates of these programs are getting good jobs as electricians, solar technicians, or commercial drivers.

Meet Zaina

She Has a Dream

Zaina is an orphan. Orphan girls in Tanzania who do not have an education are at the bottom rung of society. Without parents to care for them, often their only option is to get married, to become a lifelong household servant, or even to turn to prostitution.

Zaina came to the Isandula Voc-Tech college wanting to gain independence. After two years of hard study, she graduated with a certificate in automotive electrical. She then went back to the college and received her driving certificate.

Asked what she wants to do with her life, she says with a smile, "Someday, I want to own my own mechanic shop."

We here at Orphans Africa are proud to have helped Zaina gain her independence and begin to realize her dreams. We believe that all persons deserve the opportunities to maximize their potential!

urgent need

Our girls desperately need a safe space in which to stay. We are in the middle of building a dormitory for girls, but need help in order to finish it. It is our goal to finish it by the end of September, 2024, in time for enrollment for the new school year which begins in January. It will cost $50,000 to finish the structure, including toilet and bathroom facilities.

We currently have a $25,000 matching grant. This means that for every dollar you give, our donor will match it, doubling your impact!
